Not related to Malaria
Here's a post unrelated to Uganda, but important enough to feature:
One of my best friends from high school is engaged: Congrats John, all the best. (But if you ever get engaged again, you have to at least tell me you were going out with someone in the first place)
Last night Sam, Shereen, Aliza and I went out to the National Theater to check out a craft market in the area, eat indian food, and catch some local music at the Theater. The Theater itself was rather strange in that we couldn't actually figure out where the main theater was- the music was all played in the drinking room of the Nat't Theater, but there weren't any obvious large doors that would lead into a huge auditorium or anything. Aliza and I managed to get seats inside, but Sam and Shereen came up a bit later than we did, and got stuck outside, and left. We left about half an hour after that- the music was ok, the local stuff was way better than the covers of Cher, Enrique, and other US pop songs that we had to listen to. Well, there were some women who came up to sing that were pretty darn bad too. But on the upside, there was a pretty good acoustic guitar player from Malawi, and a few decent singers too. Some of the tuning they tried to do onstage was pretty dubious, but sheer volume and distortion covered it up pretty well.
Got back, shuffled through my music for about 2-3 hrs straight and went to sleep at 2. Strange, not something I do often back in the states, but for some reason, it feels like such a great way to relax after the day is done.
Surveillance work today is going pretty darn well- Shereen and I were working on graphs yesterday, and are putting the final touches on the graphs and also working on presentation of statistics for a meeting we have today. We're encountering database and coding inconsistencies (people keep changing the database, and so the code keeps going out of date- we're hoping to finalize soon).
