Shot twice and lived to tell the tale
Today was immunization day- got an updated polio vaccine shot (they don't do oral polio vaccine anymore, there was a small risk of death, so they withdrew it) and a meningococcal vaccine shot. I'll also be going on an 8 day typhoid regimen starting tonight, and a 9 week malaria regimen starting the week before I leave. I also got cipro (a strong antibiotic, usually used for diarrhea treatment).
If any of you are planning to travel around the world, immunizations aren't cheap. The immunization visit cost 50 bucks, and on top of that, I probably paid about 200-300 dollars total in terms of drugs and shots, and that's with insurance. Fortunately, thanks to my trip to China this past summer, I was still up to date on my yellow fever, hepatitis A and B, MMR, and other vaccinations. Who knows how much it would have been if I didn't have those already taken care of. Maybe my firstborn, or my soul.
Some people hate shots. Namely, so far everyone except for me. It makes me feel like my body's getting upgraded, leveled/powered up, or something- being immune (or partially immune) to diseases that would otherwise wreak havoc on my body is something that makes me feel warm inside...
Oh, and this phrase has been stuck in my head ever since high school:
yo banana babe o mama I am amoeba banana boy
Spell and read it forwards and backwards, and you'll see how cool a phrase it is. I guarantee that women will swoon if you use that phrase on them.
